Bite before you board – here are Brisbane Airport’s best pre-flight snacks to grab as you race to your gate

We’re not sure what it is about airports, but as soon as we step foot inside our stomachs are instantly screaming to be fed. Whether it’s the earlier-than-usual start or nervous excitement that is making our tummies rumble, the insatiable need to fuel up on pre-flight snacks is something our body will not let us deny. But alas, we’ve left our packing to the very last minute and arrived to Brisbane Airport with only just enough time to get through security and grab a bite on the go. If you also find yourself in this predicament then we suggest ditching the unfulfilling packet of crisps in favour of a gourmet bite from one of Brisbane Airport’s best nosh-spots. Here are our picks …

If you’re lucky enough to have time up your sleeve for a sit-down feast, Brisbane Airport has a myriad of mouth-watering menus for you to choose from. But, if you’re in the market for something a little more express, we implore you to look for a more belly-fuelling bite than chips. If you’re flying with Qantas and craving a nourishing ready-made bowl, Seeds by Michelin-star chef Bruno Loubet is the perfect place to grab a bite. Offering a range of sustainability-focused snacks – including easy-to-eat salads and bowls that are full of flavour and made using the freshest local produce – there is something for everyone to enjoy at any time of the day. Our recommendation are the protein balls – add them to your acai bowl, smoothie or juice for that extra kick of protein. Want to feed your brain and belly? Head to Bound to grab some in-flight reading material, delicious bites and an award-winning cup of joe. This bookstore and espresso coffee bar concept dispenses bangin’ brews from Belissimo Coffee, as well as a spectacular selection of salivation-worthy snacks from pastry powerhouse Jocelyn’s Provisions.

If you’ve sat down for a meal at Mediterranean-inspired eatery The Aviary then you know the mouth-watering morsels come out quick, which is why this cafe and bar is the perfect place to perch for a quick bite. The eatery also has a range of snacks that you can grab on-the-go, such as the seriously-addictive honey puffs. Got a sweet tooth? Grab a gourmet sweet treat from New Farm Confectionary (chocolate-dipped salted caramel lollipops anyone?) or stock up on Noosa Natural Chocolate Co at News@bne. For more sugary delights you can choose from a selection of sweet and savoury options from Mott & Mulberry, like the matcha almonds or freckled buttons from Melbourne-based sweets dispensary Chocomama. It wouldn’t be a round-up of the best airport bites without mentioning cult favourite, Krispy Kreme. It goes without saying the doughnuts and milkshakes are a must for any on-the-go traveller with a serious sweet tooth.
