Brisbane dwellers are thoroughly spoilt for healthy choice, with Orawgi in Woolloongabba, Felix Espresso and Winebar in Brisbane City, Coco Bliss Superfood Bar in Bulimba, Kunara Organic Cafe in Albion and now Avalanche Nature’s Superfoods opening in Fortitude Valley’s Emporium. Following just a 28-day turnaround from conception to birth, the smoothie and snack bar started blending through the fresh fruit and superfoods last week. While health food bars may be popping up around Brisbane at breakneck speed, few can boast an experienced nutritionist at the helm. Following two decades rattling the pans in kitchens around Brisbane, owner Justine Dobben has spent the last few years buried in nutrition books and devising non-profit nutritional education programs for local schools.

The chef is now sharing her skills with Fortitude Valley locals, who can pop by for fresh juices, smoothies, salads and wraps throughout the week. Everything from the dressings to the dipping sauces is made in-house, and raw, sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and paleo preferences are all catered for. Justine is happy to talk customers through the nutritional benefits of the menu items and has also prepared foodie guidelines for the healthy minded to flick through.

Alkalise the body, boost the immune system or power up on protein with smoothie combinations like Raw Cacao Gold with chia seeds, banana, coconut water, pea protein powder, agave syrup, vanilla bean paste, yoghurt and goji berries. All-day buckets invite snackers to select their favourite combination of fruit, muesli, yoghurt and little extras, while a range of salads and spinach-swathed wraps await in the lunch cabinet.
