Hold Me Closer Tony Danza

Belt out misheard song lyrics at Metro Arts’ Hold Me Closer Tony Danza

Picture this – you’re driving in the car with your friends when suddenly someone queues up an Elton John playlist. The familiar piano riff of ‘Tiny Dancer’ kicks in and by the time you’ve reached the chorus, you’re ready to sing your heart out. Suddenly, you friend belts out an unfamiliar lyric – “hoooold me clooooser Tony Danza”. You look at each other in confusion and you think to yourself “how did they get it so wrong?”. This misheard song lyric is the premise, or rather, the thought-starter, for Metro Arts’ first show for 2023, Hold Me Closer Tony Danza.

Bring along your dancing shoes as Metro Arts isn’t playing around in 2023, they’re spinning around! At Metro Arts from January 24 to January 28, Hold Me Closer Tony Danza is a celebration of pop music that asks the audience to pick a side, show their true colours and get ready for the ultimate dance-off. Theatre goers can expect killer choreography, catchy pop songs and a message that will hit you right in the feels.

Full of dance and delightful life learnings, Hold Me Closer Tony Danza is the handiwork of award-winning collective The Farm. This immersive dance-theatre experience, which was created by Kate Harman, Michael Smith, Gavin Webber and Anna Whitaker, asks how we can still grow true connections with each other when we feel so far apart. If you’re looking to experience meaningful and thrilling theatre in 2023, let this production be it.

Tickets for Hold Me Closer Tony Danza can be purchased through the Metro Arts website. Those looking to delve deeper into the theatre production can stick around for the artist Q&A after the show on Friday January 27.
