Creativity, collaboration and culture – The Calile Hotel and Australasian Dance Collective present Up Close and Personal

Fortitude Valley’s luxury lodging The Calile Hotel is not what we’d call short on class or culture. Not content to lay around on its architecturally celebrated laurels however, it has instituted a series of Calile Culture Events, which aim to foster curiosity and creative energy within the local community providing a platform to talent from literature, visual arts, design, performance and the music worlds. The next event, coming this month, is an opportunity to get up close and personal with the adroit artists of the Australasian Dance Collective (ADC).

The glamorous Richards and Spence-designed walls of The Calile will ring with the sound of music and the pitter patter of feet tripping the light fantastic as the two beloved Brisbane institutions band together to host an immersive evening of film, dance and discussion on Tuesday April 23. Coming from a history of many years of partnership and support between The Calile Hotel and Australasian Dance Collective, this unique one-night only, multimedia presentation celebrates the unique magic of creative collaboration.

Upon arrival attendees will be greeted by flickering features from ADC’s award-winning films projected large, after which they will be led on a picturesque promenade-style tour of The Calile’s halcyon halls by ADC company artists. The artists will then give a series of intimate boiler-room-esque performances featuring vignettes from the best of ADC’s extensive repertoire, including Aftermath, Still Life, Dull Boy, and Truth Beauty Suffering. After experiencing the power of the Australasian Dance Collective ensemble up-close, attendees will then be treated to thought-provoking conversation as ADC’s artistic director and CEO Amy Hollingsworth, ADC’s associate artistic director Jack Lister, ADC’s rehearsal director and artistic advisor Gabrielle Nankivell, musician, producer and composer Louis Frere-Harvey, and ADC company artists Harrison Elliott, Lilly King, Taiga Kita-Leong, Lily Potger and Georgia Van Gils sit down to discuss the collaborative process and the merging of artistic practises to create powerful artworks.

Immerse yourself in a world of wonder with Calile Culture, Australasian Dance Collective – Up Close and Personal on April 23. Tickets are highly limited and on sale now.
