Beverage buzz – the famed Mont Blanc coffee has arrived in Brisbane and we know where to get a taste

There’s a new drink on the market that is setting our Instagram and TikTok feeds abuzz. The Mont Blanc, a drink created and made virally popular at vaunted Melbourne cafe Good Measure, has made its way to Brisbane, with an increasing number of local cafes putting a spin on the cream-topped sipping sensation. We’ve done a quick tour around town to find the spots where you can get a Mont Blanc right now – here’s what we found …

What is a Mont Blanc? Well, it’s a flavour sensation, if feedback from our Melbourne friends is anything to go by. In coffee terms, it’s a specialty drink (think a non-alcoholic coffee cocktail) first created at Good Measure, a cosy Carlton cafe known for a few things – sandwiches, vinyl and coffee. The cafe’s Mont Blanc features lightly sweetened filter coffee topped with whipped cream, a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg and orange zest, creating a drink that’s invigorating and a little bit decadent.

After taking Melbourne by storm, the Mont Blanc has arrived in Brisbane. While it’s still early days for the craze, there’s a handful of killer cafes already making the Mont Blanc a fixture of their menus. Over in Spring Hill, pint-sized piccolo pourer ’feind Coffee has recently launched its take on the Mont Blanc, featuring cold-brew coffee infused with black-sugar syrup, topped with a pour of cream and milk mixture, nutmeg and zest. We suggest pairing it with a flaky croissant on the side.

Long-running roaster Fonzie Abbott has also started serving a Mont Blanc variation from its Albion and Newstead locations. This one starts with Fonzie Abbott’s signature cold brew poured over ice and sweetened with a dash of simple syrup. Then, to elevate the experience, the team adds a perfectly whisked dollop of homemade cream crafted from thickened cream, sea salt and milk, before a dusting of freshly grated orange zest adds a bright citrus aroma.

Over in Tarragindi, phenomenal Filipino-inspired cafe (and primo purveyor of specialty beverages), Lola’s Coffee Bar launched its own Mont Blanc on Wednesday July 1, infusing iced filter coffee with sweet orange before adding in cream, nutmeg and orange zest. If you’re looking for something a little bit different, Mourning Roast in Stones Corner has a signature drink on the menu that hits some of the same beats as the Mont Blanc, but deviates slightly in form and is a solid, everyday morning coffee, instead of a rare treat. The Obsidian is an eye-catching beverage in a 20-oz cup that tops iced cold brew with Mourning Roast’s house-made brown sugar cold foam, creating a drink worth getting out of bed early for.
