5 Boroughs brings New York street food to Stones Corner

When we think of American fare, it is easy for our mind to stop at burgers, hot dogs and fries. But what we often forget is that all across the country – especially in New York – a multitude of cultures have gathered to call the United States home, bringing with them their diverse and delectable cuisines.

Stones Corner’s newest resident 5 Boroughs takes its inspiration, as its name might suggest, from the streets of New York City, plating up a full suite of ‘American’ eats. Lovers of classic American-style food will certainly not be disappointed – you’ll find a full range of burgers (eight in fact) and sides of rustic chips, haystack onion strings and house-made minted slaw. The burgers have been carefully considered, and the preservative-free buns are baked fresh daily from a special recipe, ensuring each batch has a perfectly soft texture without a sickly sweet flavour. You’ll also find moreish pork baby back ribs in true American style, and if you can’t decide between the two you can opt for a combo of pork riblets and two sliders.

But on the other end of the spectrum, 5 Boroughs celebrates America’s adopted cuisines as well. Drinking food includes tasty morsels such as chicken karaage wings, duck and plum gyoza or beef empanadas. Munch on bigger bites such as fish or chicken tacos, steamed bao buns with pulled pork or flat-grilled chicken, and house-made panko fish fingers, or hoe in to pressed sandwiches including the Reuben on rye and pulled pork and slaw. Lovers of the film Chef will be excited to know they can also sink their teeth into a Cuban, with leg ham, slow-cooked pork, double cheese, dill pickles and American mustard on lightly basted Cuban-style bread.

5 Boroughs’ New York influences don’t stop there. The open-walled fit-out features exposed-brick walls and Big Apple street scenes, and each table is topped with a bottle of Heinz Tomato Ketchup and French’s Classic Yellow Mustard. Behind the bar you’ll find Brooklyn Lager on tap, alongside local brews from Stone & Wood, Yenda and James Squire. Classic New York-style cocktails are also on offer, as well as a back bar with strong focus on bourbon and spiced rum. And if a non-alcoholic is more your style, opt for a bottomless cup of the ice tea flavour of the day.
