Little Mermaid brings coastal cuisine to Mermaid Beach

When the boards went up on K Bar & Meze, locals and regulars to the Mermaid Beach hangout let out a collective gasp. Thankfully, the closure wasn’t permanent, just long enough to completely transform the venue into Little Mermaid.

The new name is just the tip of the iceberg at Little Mermaid. The previously dark and moody establishment is now awash with crisp white and an abundance of living greenery suspended from the ceiling, filling shelves and cascading down walls. What used to be two separate areas, one for day and one for night, has been combined to create one large area but with curious little nooks so you’ll always find something new to look at. The coastal space has been imagined and created by the gents from Studio Workshop as a place you can come for breakfast, head out for a surf and come back a little later for a bite and a beer.

The menu has also been completely overhauled to reflect the casual new environ and features fresh and simple tastes including grilled garlic prawns, crispy potato skins loaded with sour cream and chorizo crumb and Stone & Wood beer battered fish and chips that is even served wrapped in paper. The drinks list is equally as relaxed and offers a selection of beers on tap and by the bottle as well as a mighty appetising selection of cocktails including a cold pressed juice and spiced rum concoction that surely offsets any guilt from the alcohol. If you feel that one simply will not suffice, opt for a strawberry and peach rose sangria or pineapple margarita, which are available by the jug.
