Studio Workshop breathes new life into old methods
Operating from an unassuming garage in an industrial area, Studio Workshop is creating elaborate custom furniture, from one-off entertainment units right through to freestanding feature walls for businesses.
Studio Workshop is the result of a shared dream for Gold Coast boys Joel Hutchines and Rory Spence. The pair, armed with collective experience in carpentry, building and architecture, is utilising new digital fabrication technology to expand the realms and possibilities of handcrafted products.
The result is something that is bespoke in every way. No two items are exactly the same, which the lads believe to be kind of ironic in a strange way because the piece started in a uniform digital format. For Joel and Rory, the process of physically building and constructing something by hand brings it to life and gives it character, character that can’t be mass-produced.
Between them, they aim to create highly functional designs whilst staying true to the materials and the essence of what the built form should embody. Studio Workshop can be found online.
