Stock up on bries and blues at Burleigh’s new weekly cheese pop-up

Got a soft spot for cheese? Don’t we all. If you’re the type that seeks out the best of the best and appreciates local produce, then you’ll want to pay a visit to Burleigh’s newest weekly cheese pop-up, a delicious new side-project from local artisanal cheesemaker Kat Harvey.

If you’re familiar with Burleigh’s James Street, you may have visited ATM-turned-coffee-nook Seadog, located about half way down. Well, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 2:00 pm, cheese queen Kat Harvey will take over the Seadog space to dispense a range of hand-made artisan cheeses. Here you’ll find a selection of soft and semi-hard cheeses, with everything from creamy bries to washed goat varieties (and more) on offer. You can buy them individually, or better yet – opt for a small platter to go (complete with a tub of honey and grapes) and plonk yourself over on Burleigh Hill.

Kat Harvey is a former chef who made her way to the Byron Bay region from Sydney a little while back to pursue her passion for cheese – fast forward a few short years, and Kat is now a full-time cheesemaker for Nimbin Valley Dairy and Byron Bay Cheese Co, specialising in soft cheeses. Her new Burleigh pop-up showcases a core range from both brands (which she personally hand made from start to finish, apart from milking the cow – that’s an artform in itself), along with a few of her favourite international cheeses. Kat is actually a walking encyclopedia on cheese, so feel free to sling her a bunch of cheesy questions (we absolutely did) before you stock up on all-things soft and stinky.

You’ll find the Kat Harvery Cheese Pop-Up at Seadog on James Street in Burleigh from 2:00–7:00 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
