Four Pillars fast-tracks the release of its Changing Seasons Gin in collaboration with Japan’s Kyoto Distillery

The temporary closure of our favourite pubs and watering holes means that we're now forced to (responsibly) enjoy tipples from the comfort of our couch. It also means that our home liquor supplies are drying out at a faster rate than usual – though, here's some great news to counter the sad state of your bar cart. Yarra Valley distillery Four Pillars has fast-tracked the third release in its exclusive Distiller Series – introducing Changing Seasons Gin, a new Japanese-inspired sip created for 'times that are changing faster than any of us can keep up with'. more

The round-up: avoid supermarket mayhem and support local delis, fresh-food markets and international grocers

Right now, supermarkets are really not the most enjoyable place to be. If you're in need of essentials, perhaps look beyond the giant chains and spend your money with small local businesses at a time when they need it most. The Gold Coast has a large stable of international grocers, delis, Asian supermarkets and fresh-food markets that are open and well stocked so you can duck in and grab what you need to get you through. more

The Weekend Series: five non-alcoholic alternatives to wet your whistle

Whether you’re a non-drinker, the designated driver, on a health kick, pregnant, not in the mood or even just hungover from the night before – we know that up until recently, your non-alcoholic alternatives kinda sucked. Your options were either swamped with sugar or dull and tasteless. But not anymore. We welcome in the new wave of non-alcoholic spirits and wines to get the party started (but keep the party-guilt away). more

Stock up on natural wine from newly launched Gold Coast-based online store Ok. Wines

The exciting movement of minimal-intervention wine is certainly gathering steam and it's opening our eyes to a whole new world of all-natural, easy-drinking wines that are fun, interesting and (most importantly) delicious. Though, apart from getting to trial and sip them at our favourite restaurants, decent (let us reiterate decent) natural wines can be pretty hard to get your hands on – especially for us Gold Coast folk. Enter Ok. Wines, a new Gold Coast-based online retailer specialising in natural grape juice with next-day delivery for locals. more

What to drink when you’re not drinking – take your martini dry with Lyre’s booze-free spirits

You may be participating in Dry January or just detoxing from the festive season altogether, but for those of us sensible (and selfless) enough to bear the burden of being designated driver on a night out, the craving for a cocktail can be a moralistic tug-o-war. That's where Lyre's steps in – a range of delicious non-alcoholic spirits that help make a mean mocktail. more

Against the grain – new gluten-free brewer TWØBAYS hits the craft-beer scene

For an increasing number of people, gluten free is a lifestyle choice but for those living with coeliac disease, it's life. When Richard Jeffares was diagnosed with the disease in 2015, he was saddened by the prospect of never being able to enjoy a paddle of craft beer with his mates. Sure, gluten-free beer existed but there simply wasn't the quality or variety that he had previously enjoyed. His hope, however, was restored when Richard took a trip and sipped his way from Portland over to Montreal discovering gluten-free beer that was as good, if not better, than the beers he remembered. He returned home inspired and launched TWØBAYS Brewing Co in 2017. more

From Mexico to Queensland – Volando is the new tequila in town calling the shots

There are many countries around the world to thank our favourite alcoholic spirits. Russia and Poland for vodka. The Caribbean islands for rum. Holland for gin. Scotland and Ireland for whiskey. And of course, Mexico for tequila. Tequila tends to invoke strong feelings in its drinkers, be it a favourite bar for a margarita or an evening bolstered by shots of the stuff -- and if you consider yourself a lover of the spirit, we have some pretty darn exciting news to share. more

We’ll drink to that – Empirical Spirits is bringing a taste of Copenhagen to Australia

Copenhagen is a kind of utopia where 62-percent of commuters ride bicycles, parental leave is 52 weeks long and interiors are so cosy they invented a new word to describe it – Hygge. It’s no surprise then, that this city is also home to Empirical Spirits, a company leading the spirits pack in flavour innovation. If Copenhagen is a little far to travel for your next knock-off drink, you needn’t worry. From Sunday December 1, Empirical Spirits will be available in bars, restaurants and retailers across Australia. more

Bite-sized delight – spruce up your work lunch and life with a (tiny) jar of Meredith Dairy Goat Cheese

Look, we'll admit it. The vast majority of us here at The Weekend Edition are total turophiles. There, we said it. We don't just like cheese, we love it! We obsess over it and spend more time than we'd like to admit talking about it and thinking about it which is precisely why we're so excited that Meredith Dairy has released its delicious marinated goat cheese in super handy 100-gram jars. more

Burleigh bar Rosella’s teams up with Bundaberg Rum to release an exclusive Bundy blend

Ahh yes, the good ol' Bundy Rum. Some of us love it, some loathe it – either way, we can all agree on the fact that Bundaberg Rum is a true Aussie icon. We all know rum in general is having its time in the spotlight again, similar to the revival of gin and whisky, and now Gold Coasters have more reason to jump on the rum bandwagon – the Rosella's X Bundy Rum collab. more

Fancy a specific drop? TextWine is your own personal sommelier

Sometimes wines are hit and miss. Some will make your tastebuds do a little happy dance and linger in your memory long after the last sip whilst others are destined to be erased. If you have ever experienced the pain of falling in love with a wine at a restaurant but have then forgotten the name of it when you went to find it again (possibly because you enjoyed it a little too hard) or you want to relive a special memory with a particular drop but have no idea where to find it, you need TextWine in your life. more
