When Sydney calligrapher and hand letterer, Lauren Hung, combined her two loves, fashion design and journalism, back in March 2014 it resulted in the launch of theblackline by lauren.

Working predominantly with commercial clients, Lauren has completed work for international luxury brands and clients – including TAG Heuer, Bottega Veneta, Tiffany & Co, La Prairie, Swarovski, Spell & The Gypsy Collective, MAX MEDIA LAB, MAX Connectors, Westfield, Maison du Maillot, House of Airlie, Collabosaurus, A21 Campaign and The Children’s Cancer Institute. Lauren has also worked extensively on wedding stationery, commissioned artworks and tattoos.

Inspired by her upbringing in Sydney’s flower growing district, Lauren’s work continues to reflect her love of seasonal blooms and fashion through delicate love scribbles curated for dreamers, achievers and world-changers.

After running a sold-out calligraphy workshop at West Elm Bondi Junction for Valentines Day and a successful calligraphy workshop ‘Hey Good Lookin’ in Sydney for Sydney’s Public Relations gurus, theblackline by lauren will be dropping into the Gold Coast for a workshop hosted by Jasmin of Lemon Canary on April 30th.

This 2-hour workshop is suitable for beginners and covers the fundamental basic of pointed pen calligraphy such as assembling and handling pen and nib, knowing your ink, learning basic calligraphy drills and letterforms as well as helping you to discover your own unique style of calligraphy.

In addition to learning the art of calligraphy, attendees will be sampling a selection of Fine Organic Italian wines by Wine Educator Warren Smith from Estate Wines. He will take guests’ tastebuds through a journey of fine wines and accompany them with selected cheeses from the local Tamborine Mountain Witches Chase Cheese Company. The workshop will be finished with artisan handmade chocolate & selected teas from Hostess Jasmin from Lemon Canary.

Individual materials will be supplied to each participant. All materials supplied are carefully tested and Lauren’s personal favourites and attendees will be able to take home the materials to practice their newfound love of calligraphy.
