Five unmissable events at Glitter Festival 2016

Following the overwhelming success of the inaugural Glitter Festival in 2015 – it’s back, baby! This year it’s even bigger and better with four incredible days of theatre, cabaret, comedy, dance, film and visual arts from October 6–9 at The Arts Centre Gold Coast. The popular festival embraces diversity, encourages freedom of expression and celebrates the unique personality of the Gold Coast – so, in the spirit of glitter, here are our top five must-see events.

I’m Every Woman
This will be a hoot. Trevor Ashley, one of the busiest men in showbiz, will perform his energetic show I’m Every Woman at Glitter Festival on Friday October 7. Think of it as a diva degustation, with Trevor Ashley (also known as Trashley) performing in the character of the world’s most famous divas. From Better Midler to Cher, and Tina Turner to Judy Garland, each diva will sing their most popular songs, along with some you wouldn’t expect them to. With Shirley Bassey also in the diva line-up, we know this will be a night of non-stop fun. We recently caught up with the talented Trevor Ashley to chat wigs, wine, and hard-working wind machines – have a read here.

Anthony Callea – Ladies & Gentlemen, The Songs of George Michael
Following the release of his top-selling album Backbone, Anthony Callea will take the Glitter Festival stage on Saturday October 8. Touted as one of Australia’s finest vocalists, Anthony will perform his hit show Ladies and Gentleman, the songs of George Michael, which features iconic hits such as ‘Faith,’ ‘Freedom’ and ‘Fastlove’. This is a show that is sure to have you on your feet. George Michael tunes all night long? Yes please.

Come one, come all – The Saturday Social is a free event that will have something for all ages. Bring the family along to enjoy an eclectic mix of community performances, local musicians, dance shows, art displays, tasty food, community stalls, activities and entertainment for the kids. The Saturday Social, which is a celebration of the diversity among the Gold Coast community, will kick-off on The Arts Centre Gold Coast’s terrace stage from 3:00 pm on October 8. Perfect for an afternoon of fun in the sunshine before getting the party started with Anthony Callea!

Brown Sugar
Set to be a super sexy night, Brown Sugar will delight more than just the taste buds when it hits the stage on Thursday October 6.
