Where to commemorate Anzac Day across the Gold Coast
On April 25 1915, brave soldiers from Australia and New Zealand fought for freedom. On this day in 2024, we remember them. We commemorate those who fought in the trenches in World War I through to current conflicts, and whether you choose to pay your respects at a dawn service or later on in the morning, we’ve rounded up some events happening around the Gold Coast this Anzac Day.
Burleigh Heads: Held at the Memorial Park Cenotaph in Burleigh Heads, this Anzac Day dawn service begins at 4:28 am and runs until 5:30 am. The later Anzac Day service, also held at Memorial Park Cenotaph, runs from 9:15 am to 11:00 am. For more information, head here.
Coomera: Northern Gold Coasters can attend the Coomera Anzac Day ceremony, which is happening from 11:00–11:30 am at Upper Community Centre at 90 Reserve Road, Upper Coomera. To learn more, head here.
Currumbin: One of the most popular Anzac Day ceremonies is held at Elephant Rock on Currumbin Beach, and this year’s dawn service will kick off at 5:00 am. Before the dawn service, a march assembly and registration check will happen at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Village Green (28 Tomewin Street, Currumbin). The march will commence at 4:35 am with the dawn service to follow at 5:00 am. Channel 7 Sunrise will be broadcasting the dawn service live if you cannot make it in person. Currumbin RSL will hold a mid-morning service at the club’s cenotaph. The march assembly at Winders Park will happen at 10:35 am, while the parade commences at 10:55 am and the Anzac Day ceremony will follow at the Currumbin RSL Cenotaph. To learn more, head here.
Helensvale: Further north down the coast you can join the 2024 Anzac Day dawn service in Helensvale – hosted by RSL North Gold Coast Sub Branch. Helensvale’s dawn service will begin at 5:00 am at Memorial Wall at 20 Discovery Drive in Helensvale. For more information, head here.
Nerang: Nerang’s Anzac Day dawn service is held at Nerang RSL & Memorial Club at 69 Nerang Street from 4:45 am. The main ceremony will happen at 10:00 am, with the march form-up point located at the Maid of Sker end of Nerang Street at 9:15 am for a 9:40 am step off. For more details, head here.
Runaway Bay: Runaway Bay’s dawn service begins at 5:00 am next to the Runaway Bay Library off Lae Drive. The Anzac Day march at 9:30 am will form up in Seagulls Rugby League carpark and march to the Anzac Place Cenotaph, where the Anzac Day ceremony will start at 10:00 am. Southport: The Anzac Day march will form up at 7:15 am at the carpark of the Aquatic Centre on Lind Street in Southport. Step off will be at approximately 8:00 am. The main Anzac Day ceremony at 9:00 am – hosted at RSL Southport Sub Branch – will include the laying of wreaths, the playing of the Last Post and the observance of a minute’s silence. Surfers Paradise: Early birds can catch the dawn service at Surfers Paradise from 5:30–6:30 am at the Anzac Memorial along The Esplanade. The dawn parade commences at 5:00am on Beach Road, and marchers can form up at 4:45 am at 9 Beach Road (outside the Subway) in Surfers Paradise. Later in the day, an Anzac Day ceremony will take place from 12:00–1:00 pm at Cavill Park (opposite The Cavill Hotel). Learn more here.
Tweed Heads/Coolangatta: Southern Gold Coasters can wake up early for the dawn service at 5:45 am, hosted by RSL Tweed Heads & Coolangatta Sub Branch. Veterans participating can form up adjacent to the Children’s Statue in Chris Cunningham Park (Wharf Street) by 5:45 am. Later in the day, the Tweed Heads Anzac Day march will form up in Boundary Street in Coolangatta adjacent to Coral Street, to be ready to move off at 10:30 am.
