Build-your-own breakfast at Stones Throw in Burleigh

Occupying the old Pigs and Pints on the Gold Coast Highway, Stones Throw is the latest addition to Burleigh Heads’ culinary melting pot and dishes up a refreshingly different menu of daytime eats. The venue officially opens its doors today and is the work of brother and sister duo Cameron Chartres and Melanie Windsor.

Having spent the last 20 years eating and working his way around 60-odd countries, it’s fair to say chef Cameron Chartres, co-owner of Stones Throw, knows a thing or two about flavour. He has put everything he’s learnt along the way in to creating a distinctive breakfast and lunch menu that is filled with exotic flavours and dishes such as Turkish eggs with whipped yoghurt, hot chilli butter and flat bread and coconut sugar-cured prawn omelette with chilli sambal, green chilli and spring onion. For traditionalists, there are still some familiar options such as the bacon and egg roll, it just takes a slightly unexpected approach where instead of bacon, it has char-grilled chorizo and instead of regular sauce, it’s topped with pineapple relish, rocket and smoked garlic aioli.

Alongside hearty hot dishes, Stones Throw is pioneering the concept of a breakfast bar that is brimming with build-it-yourself muesli and granola, which is kind of like a dessert bar without the guilt. The venue is dedicated to nourishing the people of the Gold Coast with fresh, healthy food made from locally sourced produce, with the exception of Cameron’s impressive collection of spices. The best part, the entire menu is available take-away so if the sun is shining, you can mosey over to Burleigh Hill and enjoy breakfast with a beautiful view. For caffeine fiends, the cafe brews Brisbane’s Fonzie Abbott coffee and makes its own cold-pressed juice in-house.
