Bam Bam Bakehouse swaps coffee for night-time eats and sweet treats

Having won over the breakfast and brunch crowd, popular Mermaid Beach cafe Bam Bam Bakehouse is swapping the coffee for cocktails and staying open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

By day, it’s a bustling cafe spilling out to a sun-drenched park but come nightfall, Bam Bam Bakehouse transforms into the suburb’s newest part-time bar with margaritas on tap (literally). The dinner menu reflects the venue’s general high-end bistro-style and offers some of the tried and tested favourites such as the ever-popular chicken parmigiana alongside some exciting new additions such as MSA-graded char-grilled rib fillet on the bone and crispy-skinned market fresh fish, green papaya and fresh coconut salad. Grab a side of sweet potato fries with grated haloumi, green onions, za’atar and garlic tahini sauce, because nothing beats fries and cheese.

Whatever you do, be sure to leave room for one of the seriously drool-worthy soft-serve creations. The Bam Bam banana split with caramelised banana, fudge brownie, peanut butter ganache, crushed waffle cone and lashings of chocolate bourbon sauce is a sight to behold before eagerly devouring. If all of that salivating has left you thirsty, you’re in luck because the beverages list offers a succinct but satisfying selection of swill including acai daiquiris, the aforementioned margaritas on tap, mojitos, G&T’s made with Ink Gin and Stone & Wood’s Pacific Ale. Bam Bam is taking reservations for evenings or just stroll on in.
