Two long-time friends have made the jump from blogging to producing – taking their love of sugar-free food and coming forth with their own brand of healthy and hearty granola.

Nicola Scruby and Jess Frank are two savvy entrepreneurs who began their health-food odyssey in mid-2014 by providing sugar-free and full-fat recipes, reviews of nutritious goodies and advice on how to maintain a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle on their website, The Unrefined. The dynamic duo is now jumping head first into the health food business, creating and distributing their own brand of granola that is entirely sugar-free and gluten-free. The Unrefined granola ditches the grains, unhealthy oils and sugar-loaded dried fruit in favour of seeds, coconut oil and raw honey provided by urban beekeepers Bee One Third. Mixed with buckwheat, almonds, pepitas, pecans and macadamias this granola is reportedly easy on the stomach and on the waistline – not to mention fiercely addictive.

The Unrefined prepare their granola at Book to Cook’s commercial kitchen, which is then wholesale distributed to cafes and restaurants around Brisbane, including Badminton Brew, Espresso Republic, Che Asado and Ole Fuego. Don’t panic if you can’t make it to these spots for breakfast – Nicola and Jess are looking at launching an online store in April where their signature granola (as well as some new flavours) will be available for purchase. Until the store launches, keep track of the girls as they shine a light on similarly nutritious goods on their website and Instagram.
