The Coop Espresso Bar opens in Brisbane City

Tucked inside a city laneway, The Coop Espresso Bar is shepherding worker bees through their working week with steaming hot coffee and local pastries from Monday to Friday.

At 6:00 am each morning, the window to The Coop Espresso Bar swings open, revealing a sweet space and the nostril-tingling aroma of freshly ground coffee beans. Taking the concept of ‘hole in the wall’ to the literal extreme, The Coop was carved out of the wall of a building in Eagle Lane, nestled between Queen and Eagle Streets in Brisbane City. The resulting pit-stop offers workers a place to grab coffee on the go without even having to set foot inside a cafe. Those who have a moment to spare can pause on the bright benches to sip their goods, while those in a hurry can grab their recycled cups and continue their scurry through the city.

Steaming hot Mocopan Coffee including a fairtrade single-origin Ethiopian blend satisfies caffeine cravings, while cherry and apple plunders, chocolate brownies, banana cake and white butterscotch muffins from Kaptain Patisserie keep belly rumbles at bay. Those after a little more sustenance can opt for a lamb and rosemary or chunky beef pie, pumpkin with leek and sage or mushroom with spinach and fetta quiche, yoghurt with coulis and granola, or toast slathered in a range of spreads, including smashed avocado with Persian fetta, lemon and dukkah. The menu will continue to expand in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on Facebook for updates.
