The Bearded Lady opens in West End

There is a lady with a beard on Boundary Street. She’s musical, she’s mysterious – and she sure knows how to pull a mean beer.

Meet the latest bar maiden to grace Boundary Street. You may have known her as jamjar, but after three long months of renovations – which saw the owners handpicking every piece of salvaged wood from
The Demolition Yard in Coorparoo – The Bearded Lady has finally invited us into her bosom.
The quirky watering hole takes its cues from 1920s-era vaudeville, when punters would be treated to spontaneous bouts of live theatre, spoken word, bursts of music and riotous circus acts.

The bar has done away with the food menu, instead encouraging guests to BYO and currently tweaking arrangements to offer takeaway from some of West End’s local food joints. The wine list comes via local doyen Addley Clark Fine Wines, while a cool collection of cocktails boasts ingredients like Monkey Shoulder Scotch Whisky and lapsang souchong tea, and a hand pump delivers traditionally made English ale. The faithful piano has stood its ground in the front bar, while the walls have spawned new graffiti art and clusters of vintage couches offer the perfect vantage point to soak up the buzzing atmosphere.
