Sonny’s House of Blues opens in Brisbane City

Brisbane City’s nightlife is booming thanks to the addition of some hip new venues. Sonny’s House of Blues is the newest music venue and bar to open, boasting authentic dive-bar vibes, tasty food and killer music every night of the week.

Sonny’s House of Blues is the newest venture from Brisbane restaurateur, Jamie Webb – the mastermind behind Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall, Gordita, Peasant and the forthcoming Los Villanos. After spending some time visiting some of the iconic divebars in Los Angeles, Jamie decided that it was time Brisbane was shown what a real rock and roll venue could be, thus, Sonny’s was born.

The venue is locaed on Rowes Lane in the Brisbane CBD where much-mourned live music venue and bar, Rosie’s, used to exist. This new subterranean saloon has been fit out with comfy circular booths, red lamps to provide mood lighting, rock posters and music memorabilia along the walls and crisscrossing fairy lights on the ceiling, evoking the warn in aesthetic of old-school Los Angeles haunts.

Jamie’s travels around Los Angeles have seemingly had a large impact. In a surprising swerve for the local music scene, the genre of choice at Sonny’s consists of a mix of classic 80s rock, glam-metal and a bit of reggae – harkening back to the hard-hitting days of Guns’N’Roses, Poison and White Snake. Local and touring bands will perform original sets and covers seven nights a week from 9:00 pm.

As for consumable goods, Sonny’s will serve up a small but delicious range of Mexican style meals including tacos, burritos and quesadillas. The bar stocks more than 40 varieties of bottled craft beer and eight on tap, as well as a hefty selection of whisky, tequila and a list of traditional 80s cocktails such as the Blue Lagoon, Melonball and Long Island Iced Tea. The Sonny’s bar will also stock popular Lefty’s staple, whiskey apples, as well as frozen margaritas – plenty of options for those looking for some variety on their night out.
