Andrea Cook knows a thing or two about coffee. Starting off as a barista in a London cafe, her passion quickly grew from making brews into a full-blown desire to head up her own slice of caffeinated heaven. After honing her craft at Woolloongabba’s Black Sheep, she decided to take the leap from maker to owner. Her brand-new Brisbane City cafe may be called Fifty Fifty Coffee Co., but you can be rest assured there were no half-measures taken in the making of this pocket-sized paradise.
Tucked inside the Brisbane Transit Centre, Fifty Fifty Coffee Co. offers city dwellers and weary travellers a sterling alternative to the food-court fare that dominates the immediate area. Andrea has taken a distinctly sustainable focus to the cafe’s operations – takeaway coffees are made in eco barista cup, patrons who BYO drinking vessel can nab a 50-cent discount, and all of the food available is housed in glass or biodegradable packaging. The cosy space has been fitted out by Ollie Burscough from Woodsters, who has made the nook pop with slick and simple monochrome features.
Fifty Fifty Coffee Co. offers a concise selection of fresh coffee, tea, cold drinks and treats. Coffee is sourced from Sydney roaster Single O with batch brew, coldpress and cold batch varieties on offer alongside the usual (hot) suspects. Those who need some refreshing can sip on a rotating selection of housemade iced tea served with ice and fruit, or grab a kombucha from the fridge. The snack selection features an all-star line-up with pastries from The French Patisserie, treats like doughnuts and cakes from Alphabet, and mouth-watering cookies from cult favourite Butterbing.
