For Ethiopian-born Vigén Karibian, coffee well and truly runs through his veins. Not only does he hail from the epicentre of much of the world’s coffee sources, he has spent a lifetime in the industry – a career that has taken him across the UK and Melbourne, before setting his sights on the Gold Coast with his newest passion project, Wild Cherry Coffee Bar. Nestled in the Christine Corner precinct, the quaint local hub is (as you’d expect) very much about the coffee – and it’s all topped off with a good dose of jovial hospitality, neighbourhood vibes and a glorious cabinet of house-made delights.

You’ll find Wild Cherry’s own blend of beans pouring from its stunning blushed-hued La Marzocco machine on the daily. The house seasonal blend is roasted off site, served across milk-based coffees and also available (and ground to order) in take-home packs. Every day a new single origin is featured from a different Australian or international roaster  – so if you’re into black coffees or filters, your morning brew will take you on a journey across the globe. Vigén is a walking encyclopedia on coffee, so if you’re keen to delve a little deeper into what you’re drinking, let him guide you outside your comfort zone – he knows the story behind every cup. Sips aside, Wild Cherry is also equipped with a mouth-watering cabinet of house-made goodies. There’s cookies, cakes, coconut-yoghurt bircher cups, bacon and egg rolls, delicious sandwiches with fillings like salumi and provolone, fresh salads and more – and it’s all made from scratch in house daily. If you’re lucky, a fresh batch of almond croissants will be coming out of the oven when you’re there. Be warned, though – you won’t be able to resist the urge.
