Tribal Food Co. brings South American cuisine to Byron Bay

Byron Bay’s diverse culinary landscape is set to get even more delicious with the opening of Tribal Food Co. on Saturday July 9. The new venue will offer a little taste of Brazil with a healthy, modern twist.

All too often nutrition comes at the expense of affordability and vice-versa, Tribal Food Co. is out to change things for the better. The venue is the latest venture from Rafael Camargo, the owner of Elements Cafe, and Carolina Luz, a wholesome food chef who has been working with nutritionists and naturopaths for the last decade, and is designed to deliver flavoursome South American cuisine that doesn’t cost the equivalent of a week’s rent. The predominantly vegan menu will feature a succinct selection of dishes such as activated tapioca crepes loaded with organic black beans, haloumi, avocado, garden greens and salsa verde, coconut and vegetable casseroles with greens and rice and nut bolognaise with cassava. The tapioca is made from scratch on-site while the rest of the produce is sourced as locally as possible. Rafael and the team have also gone one step further and borrowed from a range of cultures and traditions to create a drinks list that not only hydrates but heals and replenishes at the same time. Sip on a soothing hibiscus, lemon myrtle and lime iced-tea or opts for a nourishing Brazil nut pina colada smoothie.

To coincide with the venue’s grand opening, Tribal Food Co. is throwing a traditional Brazilian winter party with some authentic street-food, music and a bonfire from 5:00–9:00 pm. Traditional countryside dress is strongly encouraged so feel free to bust out the plaid!
