The Funky Olive brings flavours of the Mediterranean to Burleigh Heads
The old Chilli Man Thai Restaurant on the Gold Coast Highway has made way for The Funky Olive, a new Mediterranean-inspired eatery that opened its doors late last week.
With a menu as vast as the Mediterranean Sea, The Funky Olive offers a little taste of Greece, Spain and France with a modern Australian twist. Pull up a pew (literally) and order a coffee because you may need a minute or ten to get through it all. Proving the point that it’s never too early for cheese, the grilled haloumi breakfast board that is loaded with Sumac Roma tomatoes, baby spinach, poached eggs, field mushrooms, pistachio dukkah and toasted sourdough is a popular option while for diners with carnivorous tendencies, the smoked bacon and Toulouse sausage board that is piled high with two poached eggs, relish, roasted tomatoes, hash browns and organic sourdough is a sure fire hit. If your starvation doesn’t stretch that far, there’s a whole section on the morning menu dedicated to egg lovers so you’re sure to find something to cure your craving. From midday, be tempted by morsels from the land and sea including slow cooked lamb shoulder that can be served as a salad or sandwich or the roasted sea scallops with smoked tuna dust served on a panzanella salad with saffron and dill aioli.
Open daily for breakfast and lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, The Funky Olive caters to a wide range of audiences including families who can appreciate the separate kids and juniors menus through to couples who fancy a pre-dinner wine and a grazing board.
