In the words of Jon Snow, winter is coming. Although our version of the chilly season may be somewhat mild in comparison to our snow-covered counterparts, Tarte Beach House’s owner Chloe Watts has dug deep into the culinary traditions of Europe to create a deeply satisfying menu that will keep you warm – think chunky French onion soup, creamy porridge and a seriously drool-inducing cob.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Chloe Watts, it’s that she doesn’t do things by halves. So when the Tarte owner she says she’s gearing up for winter, you can bet she’s going all out with cosy blankets, outdoor heating and, of course, some hearty, belly-warming dishes and drinks. The new winter menu, which has already softly launched, blends classic comfort with bold, innovative flavours.

Undoubtedly, one of the early stand-outs of the new menu is the Big Breakfast in Bread, which is Tarte’s take on the classic cob – a sourdough boule filled to the brim with ranchero sauce, Spanish chorizo, oozy melted cheese and a fried egg. Fair warning, it’s a beast, so you better bring your appetite.

Another must-try is the French Dip, which is a baguette-style roll layered with house-roasted wagyu beef and Swiss cheese, caramelised onion, garlic butter, chimichurri and parsley, served with a side of gravy for dunking. It’s messy, saucy, cheesey and oh-so-delicious.

Rounding out the new dishes is a green-curry soup with sauteed prawns, a rich and chunky French onion soup, grilled barramundi, and a French green salad. Those with a sweet tooth can stick a fork into the new apple tarte tatin or a baked choc-chip cookie skillet topped with ice-cream.

If you’re in the mood for something a little harder than coffee to sip, you’re in luck. There’s also a scattering of new winter-approved beverages including mulled wine, hard apple cider that’s served warm and a dirty chai martini, to name just a few.

Tarte Beach House’s new winter menu is available now. Rug up and head to our Stumble Guide for opening times.
