Father’s Day feasts fit for a king

In case you missed the memo, it’s Father’s Day on Sunday September 6 so it might be time to get around to thinking about ways to show your dear ol’ dad how much you appreciate him and his daggy jokes. If your dad has all the socks he could ever possibly wear, forgo the gift this year and spend some quality time together over a meal and maybe an ale or two. We’ve round up a few venues that put on a spread fit for a king for your Father’s Day feast.

If your dad is the kind of guy who loves nothing more than kicking back with a beer and listening to some sweet music whilst sinking his teeth into a burger, House of Brews is your place. The new eatery also offers 32 sorts of suds from pale ales to stouts so you won’t go thirsty. Pigs and Pints in Burleigh Heads and Surfers Paradise offers all of his favourite meats on a grazing plate including a 500-gram grain-fed rib eye that is cooked to perfection. Brooklyn Depot at The 4217 in Surfers is serving up some finger-licking American classics including wings, onion rings, crispy fried chicken, hefty burgers and gourmet hotdogs and has won over more than a few dear old dads. Since we’re on the topic of Yankee feasts, Easy Street Diner in Mermaid Beach is a cool choice as is Tribeca NYC on Chevron Island and Lester & Earl in Palm Beach. Pull up a stool on the deck and pick at some pulled pork cheesy fries as you take in the incredible ocean view or dive into a mighty platter of slow-cooked barbecue brisket, meaty ribs, fried chicken or a burger. If your dad appreciates his burgers with some serious girth, head to Obsessions on Chevron Island and wrap your hands around a burger that contains no less than four beef patties. If your dad can handle some (a lot) of heat, dare him to take on the Seven Circles of Hell food challenge, a burger so spicy it requires a waver. For insanely stacked stacks, it’s also impossible to go past Ze Pickle in Burleigh Heads or the Burger Lounge at Kirra.

If your old boy fancies the odd pint of ale, Bine Bar and Dining is a beer lover’s dream come true. Focusing on good food and even better beer, it’s the perfect place to catch up whilst working your way through the exotic list of brews. The food at Bine is the perfect accompaniment, but if your visit happens to coincide with happy hour (between 4:00–6:00 pm), order up a generous mound of 50-cent chicken wings. For Brontosaurus-sized steaks, pull up a seat at Clifford’s Grill & Lounge and take a peek at the Oven Daily Shares menu that contains a hefty 1kg of char-grilled T-bone steak effortlessly sliced off the bone. Broadbeach PavilionOskars on Burleigh and Moo Moo’s also grill up a few hefty slabs of beef. If you don’t want to contain yourselves to one kind of animal, the mighty meaty platter at Greek Street Grill in Surfers Paradise is a worthy contender. Meanwhile, Misono Japanese Steakhouse at Surfers Paradise Marriott offers dinner with a side of showmanship alongside an extensive selection of teppanyaki banquets that have all of the protein groups spectacularly covered. Hank Dining & Bar offers a special 6-hour braised lamb shoulder that weighs in at 1kg and Vintage Velvet also offers sharing plates with at least three different animals for your carnivorous feast.

If your dad is a sports nut, head along to Mackenzie’s Sports Bar at Southport Sharks and enjoy a pre-dinner beverage before making a bee-line over to the club’s Frenzy Food Court to enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet. If you like the sound of all-you-can-eat, QT’s Bazaar is also upping the ante on Father’s Day celebrations and putting on a spread of slow-cooked and spit-roasted meats, wood-fired pizzas, trawler fresh seafood, Asian stir-fries and curries and dumplings made-to-order. Dad will also receive a complimentary ale or cider on arrival as the cherry on top of the awesome sundae. Alto Cucina and Bar is also a cool place to enjoy a beverage and a bite but if tapas simply won’t suffice, there’s a three-course menu for under $50. If your dad is a pizza and wine kind of guy, Gemelli Italian, Justin Lane or Cucina Vivo can certainly curb your craving. If you opt for the latter, you’re also conveniently located at Jupiters Hotel & Casino for a cheeky game of after-dinner Blackjack.
