Varsity Lakes locals, workers, coffee lovers and appreciators of homewares and design – this is for you. The concept of Cru Cafe & Design Lounge, which subtly combines a vibrant cafe with an adjoining (and soon-to-open) retail and customised-homewares space, is the handiwork of well-regarded interior designer Larissa Boyce of Larissa Ella Design. As one of the key new tenants to fill the street-level space below the red brick-clad Brooklyn apartments, Cru brings a refined vibe to the precinct’s cafe scene.

The fit-out and furnishings, as you would expect, are glorious. Yes, you’ll want to take every cushion, stool and hanging plant home with you (please don’t). Whilst the doors to Cru softly opened just last week, it has already become a hive of activity, as locals and workers follow their noses to the aroma of delicious Allpress coffee. The all-day menu offers everything from crispy bacon and egg rolls with a schmear of killer relish, avocado and salmon-topped sourdough and a colourful morning muesli, to lunch-time eats like chilli-topped salmon and potato waffles.  The cabinet is brimming with on-the-go bagels, raw slices, muffins (and muffin tops) and fresh salads. If you’re after a morning coffee stop or a fresh and stylish new lunch hang, then you’d best get yourself familiar with Cru.
