Healthy tacos, colourful cocktails and good vibes at Comuna Cantina

We all know that juan taco is never, ever enough – so when the heart says tacos, but the head says gym, drop your kettlebell and run (fast) to Comuna Cantina. The new Latin eatery is now open at Pacific Fair, and we’re totally fist-pumping.

Following the success of its Brisbane venue earlier this year, Gold Coaster’s can now rest easy knowing that Comuna Cantina’s signature style of healthy, super fresh and incredibly tasty South American nosh is within reach. We know what you’re thinking – how is this feel-good fare possible? Just think less cheese, rice and sour cream, and more of the good stuff like pineapple salsa, fresh guacamole and cabbage slaw, chimichurri, plantains and quinoa. Add a little splash of the Comuna Cantina magic, and you’ve got yourself a dazzler of a dining spot. The Latin-inspired menu takes a shine to traditional South American staples like tacos, arepas (Venezula’s answer to pita bread), tortas (Mexican burgers) and churrasco barbecue plates – all vibrant, colourful and prepared fresh to order.

If arepas are your thing (they should be), the marinated prawns with guacamole, pineapple salsa, and avocado and tequila aioli is hard to go by. Mix things up with a pulled-lamb taco with chimichurri, picked onion and queso fresco. If you can’t decide, order a DIY taco board (crazy good) or tuck into Comuna Cantina’s tasty take on a brioche burger, with panko crumb crispy chicken, guacamole, chipotle mayo and fresh Mexican slaw.  Now, it’s time to treat ‘yo self – the choc-chia cookie sandwich with coconut-vanilla ice-cream and shaved cacao will do just fine, or you can keep it light with char-grilled cinnamon pineapple skewers. The Comuna Cantina crew ramp up the fun with a constantly evolving menu of colourful cocktails, alongside an impressive list of Mexican beers, flavour-packed margaritas, plus a punchy spin on sangria. With its bright and natural alfresco fit-out, complete with hand-painted tiles and natural timber wares, Comuna Cantina is perfect for a sneaky post-shopping tipple and taco, or a long lunch that will inevitably turn into dinner. Follow the neon sign that reads ‘but first, we dance’ and you’ll be in good hands.
