Satisfy your craving for burgers, beers and shakes from Benny’s Burger

If you’ve been an avid reader for a while, you’ll already know about our low-key obsession with burgers. We’re powerless to resist the siren song of a crisp southern-fried chicken creation or a cheesy meat patty, heavy on the pickles and sauce. If you share our enthusiasm for burgers big and small, there’s a new player in town – say hello to Benny’s Burger in Surfers Paradise.

Opening 11 restaurants in as many years, the South Australian-born franchise Benny’s Burger is clearly doing something right. Since the brand’s inception in 2013, the famed burger flippers have been on a mission to transcend the ordinary, and in the process have established a cult following of folks who can’t get enough of the American-inspired menu crammed with burgers, beers and shakes. At long last, Gold Coasters can get a taste of the goods, with the latest outpost springing to life on Hanlan Street, just a sandy-footed dash from the beach.

A neon light reading ‘burgers beers cocktails shakes’ leaves no doubt as to what you will find within, but those who do venture inside are greeted with a striking hand-sprayed mural of Snoop and Tupac alongside the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign, created by artist Bastian Allfrey. Hip-hop bangers set the scene for your impending American feast.

As you would expect, burgers are the hero here, with no less than 26 loaded buns to choose from, including five for vegan and plant-based pals. Patel Ankit, the owner of the Surfers Paradise iteration, says the stand-outs so far are the Aussie burger (Angus patty, bacon, egg, cheese, BBQ sauce, onion, tomato, beetroot and lettuce), the avocado chicken (chicken, bacon, mayo, onion, tomato, avocado and lettuce), and from the premium section, the Iron Lotus, (Angus patty, chicken, eight-hours slow-cooked pulled pork, bacon, double cheese, hash brown and BBQ sauce). Side your feast with a classic Canadian poutine, although not American, you’ll be willing to overlook that fact once you get a glimpse (and taste) of the chips, gravy and cheese curd combo.

Thirsty? Wash it down with a Dr Pepper, grape-flavoured Fanta or a beer, which opts for local Australian sips over imported American suds. There’s also a selection of thick shakes on offer, in flavours such as Nutella, Oreo and Biscoff. With seating for roughly 60 diners inside and out, Benny’s exudes a kind of casual-cool retro diner vibe where you can catch the latest in American sport on the big screen, or just wrap your mitts around a big, beautiful burger.

Benny’s Burger Surfers Paradise is now open! Head to our Stumble Guide for opening times.
