Opening 11 restaurants in as many years, the South Australian-born franchise Benny’s Burger is on a mission to transcend the ordinary, and in the process has established a cult following of folks who can’t get enough of the American-inspired menu crammed with burgers, beers and shakes. At long last, Gold Coasters can get a taste of the goods, with the latest outpost springing to life on Hanlan Street in Surfers Paradise. As you would expect, burgers are the hero here, with no less than 26 loaded buns to choose from, including five for vegan and plant-based pals. Side your feast with a classic Canadian poutine, although not American, you’ll be willing to overlook that fact once you get a glimpse (and taste) of the chips, gravy and cheese curd combo, and wash it down with a shake (in flavours such as Nutella, Oreo and Biscoff) Dr Pepper, grape-flavoured Fanta or a beer, which opts for local Australian sips over imported American suds.
