Watch surf lifesavers tackle the waves for the Australian Championship

Kirra Beach will be the place to be from April 11 to April 19 as surf lifesavers from across Australia push themselves to the limit to be crowned national champion.

Surf lifesavers play a crucial role when it comes to maintaining safety on our beaches. Sustaining a rigorous training schedule and high-pressure work environment is demanding, luckily there is an event where these ironmen and ironwomen can blow off a little steam. Every year, more than 300 Surf Clubs compete in more than 400 events over nine days for the honour of being named the top club in the country.

On April 11, the Australian Surf Life Saving Championship will attract thousands of competitors to Kirra for the largest event of its kind in the world. Throughout the eight-day event there will be many competitive events for Youth, Masters and Open championships as well as a range of activities for the public. Come and watch the competitors in action or brows the 100 Years Festival, kid’s entertainment and food stations on the Super Saturdays and take part in the inaugural Aussie Ocean Swim on Sunday April 12.
