The Street Photographer: Beach Burrito Company, Fortitude Valley

Sating the city’s never-ending desire for Mexican nosh, Beach Burrito Company has slipped north from its original Sydney dwellings to fill a hole on Brunswick Street with its trademark colour and character. The Fortitude Valley locale is serving up all your favourite Mexican chow – quesadillas, burritos (and the beloved bowl varietal), fajitas, enchiladas, nachos, chilli fries and jalapeño poppers. We’ve also heard very good things about the lime chilli garlic prawn taco with mango, pineapple and jalapeño salsa. Check out Beach Burrito Company on The Street Photographer. more

Taste Croatia Tours embark on an epicurean journey

Perched on the crisp blue edge of the Adriatic, Croatia is an enigmatic melting pot of dramatic scenery, enthralling culture and flavoursome fare. While many of us may have navigated those rocky coastal cliffs and plates of pungent local nosh armed with only a GPS and a few TripAdvisor recommendations, there’s just no substitute for travelling with an expert. Brisbane-based London Porterhouse chef Mark Maric has now teamed up with culinary queen Dominique Rizzo to offer roving epicureans the opportunity to join the very first Taste Croatia Tours adventure. The first troupe of explorers will embark on a two-week trip to Croatia on April 27, 2014, devouring everything from authentic street food to freshly caught seafood and contemporary takes on traditional cuisine. Rattle the pans in a private cooking class, join a truffle hunt and gain access to exclusive wine cellars. Mark will draw… more

DineSmart to help the homeless

As November edges towards December and the festive season ramps up to ridiculous, make your end-of-year catch-ups count for more than just a good feed. Next time you dine out in Brisbane, you could be helping out the city’s homeless folk by simply adding a few dollars to your bill at the end of the night. In the six weeks leading up to December 31, StreetSmart will be teaming up with some of your favourite restaurants to run the 11th DineSmart campaign, which will see 100% of all donations going towards grassroots services and projects aimed at promoting sustainable change for people who are at risk or homeless. Put your money where your mouth is at big-hearted venues like Chop Chop Chang’s, Hatch & Co., Bucci Restaurant, Peasant and South Side Diner, or browse the full list of participating restaurants online. more
