DineSmart to help the homeless

As November edges towards December and the festive season ramps up to ridiculous, make your end-of-year catch-ups count for more than just a good feed. Next time you dine out in Brisbane, you could be helping out the city’s homeless folk by simply adding a few dollars to your bill at the end of the night. In the six weeks leading up to December 31, StreetSmart will be teaming up with some of your favourite restaurants to run the 11th DineSmart campaign, which will see 100% of all donations going towards grassroots services and projects aimed at promoting sustainable change for people who are at risk or homeless. Put your money where your mouth is at big-hearted venues like Chop Chop Chang’s, Hatch & Co., Bucci Restaurant, Peasant and South Side Diner, or browse the full list of participating restaurants online. more

The Street Photographer: Alfredo’s Pizzeria

Never one to shy away from flavour, Alfredo’s Pizzeria has launched a new menu for summer, along with a Vespa delivery service. Warm-weather Italian favourites like grilled peaches wrapped in prosciutto come nestled in a salad, while arancini come stuffed with succulent mushrooms and a stringy centre of mozzarella. We hear the new American Idiot pizza of braised beef short rib, gorgonzola, pancetta and barbecue sauce is well-worth the napkin-heavy mess it leaves you in. One Eleven launches modern grill restaurant

After opening less than a year ago in the One One One building in Brisbane City, One Eleven has shed its former image and opted for an entirely new menu and approach. In collaboration with new head chef Mathias Andersson, founder Philip Johnson has pared back the restaurant’s menu to create an offering specifically tailored to the corporate crowd. Taking inspiration from the modern bar and grill restaurants peppered throughout Singapore and Hong Kong, the bistro has simplified the ordering process with the goal of speeding up the wait time for time-constrained city workers. The new menu is split into sections, inviting diners to build their own meals by selecting their protein of choice, an accompanying side and a finishing sauce. A focus on local, organic produce sees classic combinations like 180-day grain-fed Angus eye fillet adorned with red wine jus and a green bean with freekeh… more
