Pull out those party poppers friends – this week marks 300 issues of The Weekend Edition: Brisbane. Woot! Over those 300 issues we’ve sipped on a lot of craft beer, munched on a whole lot of delicious food and Instagrammed more avocado on toast than we care to admit. Not since Gerard Butler lead a fearsome procession of scantily clad spartans to war have we been this amazed by 300 of anything. It’s been a banner year for the Votan brothers – first they shift their popular eatery Happy Boy to some swanky new digs in The Valley, their inner-city restaurant Greenglass turned one, and last week they opened up a brand-new concept in Happy Boy’s former residence in Spring Hill. Salt Meats Cheese has finally opened its highly anticipated Gasworks eatery, bringing with it a fresh and relaxing Northern-Italian vibe with some mouth-watering twists. We’ve been eagerly following Newstead’s Haven development as it drip-feeds us new hotspots to check out. One of the latest (and sassiest) openings is delivering a new Japanese-inspired spin on poke bowls. Cheeky Poke Bar is slowing things down when it comes to stacked seafood bowls, lovingly crafting each dish with a plethora of nourishing ingredients and pairing it with some creative culinary inventions such as seafood tacos, bone broths, shaved milk ice desserts and more.
