Get global at the World Press Photo 16
Profiling the world’s top press photographers in categories ranging from news to nature and contemporary issues, the 59th annual World Press Photo exhibition returns to Brisbane Powerhouse this year to take viewers on a faraway journey without leaving the room.
World Press Photo 16 provides a haunting visual commentary on the state of global affairs, representing the rise in police tensions across America, the continuing refugee crisis across the world and the wild weather creating chaos and beauty. Australia’s very own Warren Richardson took out the prestigious Photo of the Year award last year with his stunning moonlit shot depicting refugees crossing the border from Serbia into Hungary.
From July 29 to August 21, viewers can take in the splendour of photographs that were chosen from some seriously impressive statistics – 5775 photographers from 128 countries submitted a total of 82,951 images. From those staggering submissions, a jury selected 42 photographers from 21 countries as the best of the best. World Press Photo 16 is an inside look at the most compelling, controversial and intimate moments from around the world.
