Who run the world? Women in Voice celebrates 25 years with a star-studded cabaret

Twenty-five years ago, a spirited group of talented performers came together to perform some cabaret in a West End cafe. Who would have guessed that this low-key affair would blossom into one of the most iconic arts institutions to come out of Queensland? Beloved Brisbane cabaret institution Women in Voice is set to celebrate its 25th birthday with a strictly limited run of shows from November 10–12 at the Brisbane Powerhouse – and you’re invited.

For the past 25 years, Women in Voice has been surprising and delighting audiences as a showcase of the most talented ladies on the cabaret circuit. From established powerhouses to fledgling newbies, each year’s cast is handpicked to represent the diversity of Queensland’s cabaret scene. Previous years have seen everything from touching tributes to zany alter egos, always anchored in good old-fashioned raw talent. One thing is for sure – there is always a surprise in store when the Women in Voice roll into town.

This year’s Women in Voice line-up features a mixture of fan favourites, industry legends and some ridiculously talented first-timers sprinkled in for good measure. Alison St Ledger, Pearly Black and Carita Farrer Spencer will be holding it down as the OG members of the cast, and will be joined by rising star Ellen Reed (who you may recognise from her turn on TV show The Voice). To top it all off, the incomparable and downright hilarious Bridget Boyle will be making her Women in Voice debut, running the show as the MC for the evening. Musical director, acclaimed pianist and composer Stephen Russell is leading the schmick and slick Women in Voice band that features Helen Russell, Jamie Clarke and Paul Hudson, and award-winning director Lewis Jones is returning as part of the stellar creative team. The gang’s all here, folks!

Ready to hear the sounds of songbirds? You can pick up tickets to the Women in Voice 25th anniversary show through Brisbane Powerhouse.
