Grape expectations – Winter Wine at Sanctuary Cove is set to be the toast of the season
As much as we are willing to advocate wine at any time of the year, we must admit that it really comes into its own as the temperature drops. Whether it’s white, red or sparkling, everyone’s favourite fermented grape beverage becomes that much easier to appreciate with the added comfort of a crackling fire and a cosy jacket. No offence to summer, but sippin’ on a glass of shiraz when it’s 30 degrees outside just doesn’t have the same effect. This is where Winter Wine comes in – taking over Sanctuary Cove on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July, the festival celebrates all things to do with the wide world of wine.
Following its raging success last year, Winter Wine is returning to Sanctuary Cove with an even bigger and better offering. The Marine Village will be transformed into the setting for an indulgent wine trail featuring drops from up to 40 Australian and international winemakers, as well as food from some of the finest producers in the country (because drinking on an empty stomach is downright irresponsible). Top chefs from The Marine Village’s leading restaurants and the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort will prepare food to match the wine, which punters can taste and buy through a coupon-based redemption system.
Highlights of Winter Wine include the Sirromet Wine Bar, offering exclusive tastings beneath a stylish double kata tipi structure. Bimbadgen Estate will also be featured within the specially themed precinct called The Vineyard, showcasing a range of wines that consist of classic Hunter Valley varietals crafted in a traditional style from Australia’s oldest wine region. The Vineyard is also conveniently the ending point for the aforementioned wine trail, so be sure to save room for when you arrive! The fun doesn’t stop there – take in wine appreciation events, champagne masterclasses and live music enhancing those comfy vibes.
