Harvest food, film and art exhibition to stir appetites

Pack your bibs and stretchy pants for the GOMA’s upcoming exhibition, Harvest, which will see art, film and food converge for one delicious winter exhibition.

When we’re not doing it, we’re talking about it. And when we’re not talking about it, we’re thinking about it. Food has made the glorious transition from a means of survival to a pathway to pleasure, spawning massive industries and inspiring artists around the world for centuries. GOMA will celebrate the role of food in art with a free winter exhibition, Harvest, opening at South Bank next weekend. More than 150 artworks have been selected from the gallery’s impressive collection, including 17th-century still lifes, contemporary photography and video works, large-scale installations and more.

The GOMA Cinema film program will get mouths drooling into popcorn boxes as the series showcases contemporary flicks that explore the production, consumption and presentation of food. If you’re in the mood for a bit of lively discussion, the crowd favourite GOMA Talks will run on Thursday evenings across July 3, 17 and 31. ABC Radio National presenters will lead special guest panellists on some very curious discussions about grub and the symbolism that goes along with it. Of course all that food porn will surely have worked up an appetite, so sate those cravings at the neighbouring GOMA Restaurant and GOMA Cafe Bistro, with special Harvest-inspired menus.

The free exhibition will run from next Saturday June 28 to Sunday September 21.
