Pottery and photography combine in Firelight

Professional potter Jan Ferguson and photographer Carmel Cook will showcase their latest works in a joint exhibition entitled Firelight at Percolator Gallery in Paddington during July 1–7.

Function and form have driven the development of Jan Ferguson’s latest collection of works, which draw on the elegant shapes, celadon and crackle glazes of the Chinese Sung and Yuan dynasties as inspiration.

Carmel Cook’s photographs tell the stories of the Australian landscape, from huge rocky outcrops sculpted over centuries by the wild force of the ocean to a serene moment captured at dusk when an ibis gently alights on a branch. Other images describe the human condition, and centre of themes of isolation, serenity and yearning. A selection of Carmel’s illustrative fine art images will also feature in the exhibition. Firelight will run July 1–7 at Percolator Gallery.
