TWE Harvest Opening Weekend GOMA

GOMA presents Harvest Opening Weekend

GOMA’s highly anticipated Harvest exhibition will kick off with talks, tours, live cooking demonstrations and epicurean entertainment this weekend, June 28–29.

The gallery’s Harvest Opening Weekend will commence on Saturday June 28 from 10:00 am with the Pineapple Artist Factory, a hands-on workshop for would-be artists of all ages. Designed by Los Angeles’ Fallen Fruit collective, the factory offers exhibition visitors the chance to challenge themselves creatively.

Conversations with Joachim Froese about his experiences in the still-life genre of contemporary art between Brisbane and Berlin will begin at 11:00 am, while Tomás Saraceno will chat for Dr Hugh Possingham about his Biosphere works, which are on display as part of Harvest. Tours approaching the topics of sustainability and globalisation through food will also take place on Saturday afternoon, with discussion from Brenda Fawdon of Mondo Organics and contemporary artist Emily Floyd.

From midday on Sunday, assistant curator Ellie Buttrose will give curatorial insights into the creation of Harvest and, at 1:00 pm, QAGOMA executive chef Josue Lopez will present food demonstrations at GOMA Cafe Bistro. Josue will be joined by Ben Williamson (of Gerard’s Bistro), Alejandro Cancino (of Urbane and The Euro) and Ryan Squires (of Esquire), who will showcase the dishes that best exemplify each of their food philosophies. Afterwards, at 2:30 pm, the topics of feminism and food will be talked about on the Maiwar Green – and guests are invited to bring along a special recipe or food story to share over a picnic.
