Brisbane Festival announces 2014 program

As the second half of the year approaches, Brisbane denizens eagerly await the return of the city’s annual arts festival. This year, Brisbane Festival is set to inspire with a host of unique performers and artists showcasing their talents.

As lights and tents begin to appear on the southern banks of the river, Brisbane Festival will be bringing together an impressive collection of movers and shakers from Australia and beyond –  to celebrate music, theatre, dance and art from September 6–27. This week saw the release of the 2014 program, meaning we can now divulge the incredible line-up.

The Spiegeltent will be making a reappearance, and bringing with it a collection of fanciful performances from the likes of Andy Bull, The Kite String Tangle, Gareth Liddiard, Midnight Juggernauts and Dune Rats. Comedians set to take to The Spiegeltent stage include funny men Matt Okine and Ronny Chieng.

This year, Brisbane will be the third city in the world to play host to Philip Glass’ operatic performance piece The Perfect American – which centres on the imagined memories of Walt Disney in his final months. One of the world’s most notable choreographers Akram Khan will bring DESH, an exploratory piece regarding the migrant experience, to town – while Queensland Theatre Company will present Black Diggers, sharing the exceptional stories of Indigenous Australians who fought in WWI. To view the full 2014 Brisbane Festival line-up, you can head to the festival’s website.
