We’ve teamed up with Dendy Powerhouse to ring in spring with three nights of movies
From Friday October 4 to Sunday October 6, Dendy Powerhouse will be kicking off its inaugural Spring Carnival with a series of four hand-picked flicks. With everything from new releases to nostalgic gems and sing-a-long fun on the program, this three-night event invites you to celebrate the season with films, festival fare and flowing Aperol Spritzes – all sponsored by yours truly. Here’s all you need to know …
Brisbane Powerhouse gained itself a new cultural hotspot when it unveiled the Dendy Outdoor Cinema last year. Located in the picturesque New Farm Park, the open-air cinema lets you watch a new release or cult classic whilst unwinding on outdoor lounge chairs and sampling treats from the on-site candy bar – all under the stars.
Brisbane’s only all-year-round outdoor cinema is gearing up for the warmer weather and The Weekend Edition is helping ring it in this new season. Dendy Powerhouse will transform into a Spring Carnival for the King’s Birthday long weekend. Across three big nights, you can catch a flick on the big screen along with lawn games and live entertainment.
So what’s on the program? Dendy Powerhouse has hand-picked four flicks to inject some fun into your weekend. We’re kicking off the festivities on Friday October 4 with a special sing-a-long screening of Grease, with a a bubble artist set to perform mega bubble spectacular to enliven the crowd. Warm up those vocal cords and head to Rydell High for a night of classic bangers like ‘Greased Lightnin’ and ‘We Go Together’. Be sure to dress as your favourite Rydell High character or in your best 50s get-up for a chance to win a double movie pass.
On Saturday night, get ready for a double bill, with a live DJ spinning tunes to unleash your carnival mood. At 6:15 pm, the latest adaptation from beloved author Craig Silvey Runt will take over the big screen, followed by an 8:45 pm screening of the spine-tingling new sequel from Tim Burton, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Finish out your weekend with a trip to the big top with a sing-a-long screening of The Greatest Showman at 6:30 pm on Sunday. The fabulous drag queen Maxi-Bon will be hosting an after-party sing-a-long session to round out your weekend.
On the menu, roll up for some carnival classics. The candy bar will be firing up its popular Byron Bay Pizzas in a range of delicious flavour medleys. Of course, no evening in the park is complete without a barbecue and that’s why Dendy Powerhouse is hosting a Kranksy sausage sizzle to pair with your movie. Once the sweet tooth strikes, treat yourself to the likes of fairy floss, churros with chocolate dipping sauce and ice-cream spiders. The bar will also be stirring Aperol Spritzes to bring you a touch of summer lovin’. Rest assured the candy bar will still be stocked with popcorn and the signature Dendy choc-tops as well. Plus, thanks to the handy QR code on your seat, you can order snacks and tipples from your seat.
