Bold bookworms join Coaldrake’s book club at Emporium
In our gadget-for-everything, hi-tech modern world, where a book can be read on a screen, pages flipped digitally and stories even read aloud to you via a cd, it’s nice to slow down, step away from the electronics and simply pick up the papery goodness of a physical book.
Sometimes it’s even nice to share and discuss the plots and synopses of these carriers of carefully crafted texts with liked-minded super readers. Luckily the folks behind Coaldrake’s bookshop at Emporium in Fortitude Valley too feel the need to chat about these bound-with-string creations they’re reading each month and so have started The Bold & the Beautiful Bookclub.
Completely unrelated to that 90s TV drama, the book club focuses on left-of-centre contemporary fiction, looking outside the arenas of popular new releases and mainstream titles.
Creating a friendly discussion circle for the thoughts of the younger (18+) or more adventurous bookworm, the book club will meet the first Thursday evening of every month.
Spots are filling up quickly though, so make sure to drop in or handwrite a letter of interest (kidding, you can call) before the club commences on April 5, 2012. What better way to laze away a Saturday morning than reading a few chapters between book club meets?
The inaugural book is Gathering of Waters by Bernice L McFadden.
