Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ lights up at La Boite
It may have been written in the 17th Century, but Shakespeare’s most joyous comedy As You Like It is a timeless story of love and lust, family feuds and reunions, wit and flamboyancy.
A feast of wrestling and romance, wit and wisdom, cross-dressing and cross-purposes, with a cast of 18 led by Helen Howard, Thomas Larkin, Bryan Probets and Trevor Stuart.
Infectiously humourous, As You Like It centres around the love between Rosalind (Helen Howard) and the younger Orlando (Thomas Larkin), after being cupid-struck at a boxing match. Banished by her uncle, Rosalind disguises herself as a man and seeks refuge in the magical Forest of Arden with her cousin Cecilia. Encountering Orlando once more, a cross-dressed Rosalind teaches him the art of love.
With a beautiful set designed by Renée Mulder, transforming from a blank black canvas to the whimsy of a forest alive with quirky characters, audiences and actors are drawn together in the lively space.
La Boite’s critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s most joyous comedy, As You Like It, must close Saturday 24 March.
