Our nation’s cultural traditions are examined in Australia Day

The QUT Gardens Theatre is hosting a three-show run of Jonathan Biggins’ Australia Day, a comedy that pokes fun at our national identity.

As the country town of Coriole prepares for its annual Australia Day celebration, the local committee has a hard time pinning down what Australia Day ought to represent and what a true blue celebration should look like. The assembled players debate whether the holiday is purely an opportunity to crack a cold one or if it should stand for something more. The only certainty is that the celebrations will be unlike anything before.

On Thursday June 25 and Friday June 26, the QUT Gardens Theatre will be staging a strictly limited run of Australia Day. Written and directed by Jonathan Biggins, Australia Day is an acclaimed comedy with humour that is saturated in Australian strine. The production will star the likes of Geoff Kelso, David James and Sharon Davis,  with tickets available now through QTix.
