Witness some ambitious dance theatre with The Paratrooper Project

Inspired by stories and photographs of events in World War II, The Paratrooper Project instils the physicality of war in dance choreography and the sounds of weapons as its musical accompaniment.

Richard Matthaei served in World War II as a German paratrooper. Decades after the war, Richard’s mementos and writing has been transformed by his grand-daughter Nerida to form the basis of The Paratrooper Project, an examination of military, political and personal histories and how they are still important today. Performed by the Phluxus2 Dance Collective, The Paratrooper Project will place performers and audiences in the war zone where sounds of artillery act as music and military movement is transformed into dance.

This production has been developed as part of the Judith Wright Centre’s Fresh Ground artist-in-residence program, and will be staged from Saturday June 27 to Saturday July 4.  This immersive performance is an insightful look at conflict at home, abroad and experiencing it all from afar, and features some of the best theatrical dance work to grace the Judith Wright Stage.
