Celebrate the 2015 Buddha Birth Day Festival at South Bank

The 19th annual celebration of Buddha’s birthday in Brisbane will return to The South Bank Parklands this weekend.

No matter whether you’re a devout Buddhist, you’re curious or you simply love a party, everyone is invited to join this iconic three-day event celebrating diversity. Running from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Friday May 1 through to Sunday May 3, the 2015 Buddha Birth Day Festival will fill the South Bank precinct with live entertainment, enlightening workshops and of course plenty of delicious food. More than 300 performers, 1000 volunteers and a massive 200,000 visitors will all be joining the festivities.

Head along to the Nightly Noodle Markets and the Vegetarian Food Fair to sample Asian cuisine until 9:00 pm each evening and catch a Vegelicious cooking display by celebrity chef Tony Ching. The Courier-Mail Piazza will be filled with rows of fresh flowers and harmonies of chanting, while at night candles and red lanterns will be be strewn throughout The Parklands. The Dragon Boat Regatta will carve up Brisbane River, while Sunday morning will see the Cultural Harmony Parade weaving through South Bank and a fireworks displays exploding across the sky that evening. Take part in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, learn calligraphy and origami, or take a Ju percussion workshop, while the little ones delight in storytelling activities.
