So, we know eggs benedict is delicious. But it’s been done, right? Small bar and cafe The Brass Barrel can guarantee you an eggs benny experience like no other – its signature dish has your classic poached eggs and hollandaise sitting atop a generous serving of braised pork served on a two-cheese and spinach scone with a drizzle of sriracha. This dish sets the scene for the entire menu, focusing on well-known classics with a distinct edge.

The Brass Barrel takes up a wide corner space in Rosalie Village, beckoning passers-by with its broad open window and cute picnic-style outdoor seating framed by a quaint picket fence. Once inside, the space takes a slightly more masculine approach, its pressed-metal, brass, leather and timber features brightened by the natural light that floods into the space. A brick feature wall frames the kitchen pass, and you can watch the chefs at work from a stool at the bar, high tile-topped table or cosy leather booth seating.

Breakfast and lunch are offered seven days at The Brass Barrel, with the lunch menu extending into the evening from Wednesday through Sunday. The Signature Brass Barrel Benedict is of course on offer, but you’ll also find yummies such as grilled polenta with spicy chorizo ragu, poached eggs, mozzarella and basil, and coconut chia pudding with mango, local berries and honey. During the day, juices, smoothies and ‘chill blasters’ are a specialty, and the coffee of choice is Fonzie Abbott. Come lunch (and then dinner) the menu evolves to salads and burgers, large plates and share dishes. You can nosh on slow-cooked lamb and quinoa salad, share salmon tacos and spiced chicken ribs with horseradish yoghurt, or dig in to grass-fed beef sirloin with pickled peppers, black pudding, fried brussels sprouts and handcut fries, and house-made sauasages with mashed potato, onion jam, red-wine gravy and mushy peas. Wash it down with a Brass Barrel lager on tap, or choose from a selection of beers, ciders, wines and inventive cocktails.
