Steamed opens new dumpling bar in Paddington

The folks over at Steamed dumpling den on Turbot Street in Brisbane City are not only getting around on their Street Food Australia food bicycle these days, but have opened a new locale in Paddington.

Having originally started out as a market stall at the Jan Power’s Farmers Markets, owners Kevin and David brought their signature Chinese jiaozi to the weekday city masses in September last year. Now the pair has set up a second shop on Given Terrace. And while the space is still being tweaked to the Steamed style, the dumplings are as fresh and delicious as ever.

House special the Zen dumpling – a vegan parcel of shitake mushroom, seasoned tofu, Chinese cabbage, carrot and ginger – has stood the test of time, as has the Harbin Pork dumpling with chives and ginger. You’ll also find the Donggu Chicken bundle of ground chicken, donggu mushroom and Chinese spice on the menu, while the Pork Cloud is spot on with its name – a fluffy, lightly sweetened bun with pork, ginger and shallots nestled into the centre.

As always, the dumplings are being made by hand on-site, with patrons able to pull up a seat at the bar to watch the action or outside to catch a few rays. Don’t forget to drizzle on some Traditional Dumpling Sauce of soy, vinegar and sesame oil and the flavoursome Chinese Vegemite (aka Lao Gan Ma) – roasted black beans with chilli oil – for a bit of kick.
