Last-minute New Year’s Eve soirees to attend

Brisbane is abuzz with ways to welcome in 2013 – if you find yourself lacking concrete plans for how to celebrate the countdown, hunt down your perfect party amongst the below festive watering holes.

If dress-ups are your thing, say aloha to 2014 at a Hawaiian-themed beach party on the ground floor of The Story Bridge Hotel, or head upstairs for a Gatsby-style soiree. The Fox is making the most of its multi-venue layout, with each bar channelling a different district of Manhattan in a New York warehouse-esque party. Cloudland will entertain with human statues and stilt walkers in an Enchanted Garden event, while The Regatta Hotel hosts a masquerade-themed celebration and The Walrus Club downstairs transports you to Cuba for Havana Nights mojitos, canapes and festivities. Over at Watt Restaurant + Bar, indulge your A Midsummer Night’s Dream fantasies while overlooking the water, while Byblos at Portside Wharf transforms into a balmy South American scene with Brazilian Carnivale dancers and bongo drumming. Limes Hotel Rooftop Bar is donning Breton stripes in honour of its new plunge pools, while neighbours Alfredo’s Pizzeria and Alfred & Constance will also be carousing until dawn.

To soak up some riverside views as the clock strikes 12, you could opt for a three-course menu at ARIA, dine on sandcrab lasagne at Il Centro, or toast with a glass of Veuve Champagne at Pony Dining. The Kookaburra River Queens is running a NYE cruise, and a DJ will be spinning tracks all night long at Saké.

At South Bank, The Jetty South Bank is encouraging an all-white-attire party for its Cloud Nine event, while Cove Bar + Dining also delivers a five-hour food package and DJ beats. Around the corner, Stokehouse Q will couple dinner and entertainment with two sittings during the evening, while Popolo splits its floor into a sit-down dinner section and canape party. Sidle up Little Stanley Street to Fifth Element for an evening of roulette tables and sultry entertainment, or climb the staircase to Bacchus for a Rio-inspired evening on the pool deck. South Bank Surf Club is also hosting a Hawaiian Luau Party, complete with island-inspired food and drinks like Caribbean rum cocktails and a pig-on-the-spit.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for a venue to host your own gathering, The Loft at Hotel Urban could make a swanky inner-city choice. And to nurse your well-deserved sore head and tired limbs the next day, 4ZZZ is hosting its annual 4ZZZ Hot 100 Card Bash in the station’s carpark, broadcasting the countdown live and playing a few mellow card games.
