Warm the belly with steaming-hot bowls of ramen and a tot of sake at new Japanese restaurant, Izakana-Ya Okuman.

A sleek new dining establishment has popped up next to Bird’s Nest Yakitori & Bar on Melbourne Street, bringing fresh sushi and sashimi to South Brisbane. Take a seat by Izakana-Ya Okuman’s open kitchen to watch the chefs work their magic, settle in to the main dining area or get cosy in one of two private dining areas book-ending the restaurant. Place your order via your table’s individual iPad and loosen your waistband for the Japanese feast that awaits.

Lunch sees the popular bento boxes featuring the likes of teriyaki and karaage chicken, ginger fried pork and chicken schnitzel. For dinner, take advantage of the daily deliveries of fresh seafood with a mighty sushi or sashimi platter, warm up with a bowl of hot ramen with handmade gyoza, or tuck in to soft-shell crab tempura, wasabi octopus or a niku-jaga omelette. Complement your meal with a Japanese beer or cider crafted by Kirin or Asahi, or enjoy a tipple of sake or shochu.
