Uncle Lai’s

Although not as prevalent as some other Asian cuisines, those in the know readily acknowledge that Malaysian fare is some of the most flavoursome and enticing cuisines around. Mount Gravatt charmer Uncle Lai’s is a popular source of authentic Malaysian and Chinese fare inspired by the hawker-style eats popular in Malaysia’s street-food scene. From the popular noodle dish char kuey teow (wok-fried noodles with fish cakes, prawn, Chinese sausage and chicken) and nasi lemak (chicken curry with cocounut rice and anchovies) to curry laksa and lau sar pau (freshly steamed salted-egg yolk custard buns), Uncle Lai’s has a fantastic cross-section of dishes to try. Sweet teeth can also savour mochi ice-cream and soy pudding. Vegan and vegetarian eaters are catered for as well, so the entire crew is welcome.
